The menu is a celebration of Ethiopia’s rich culinary heritage, but the standout is undoubtedly the 40 Sample Platter. This extraordinary spread features an artful medley of meat and vegetable dishes served atop delicate, fluffy injera—Ethiopia’s signature sourdough flatbread. Imagine the aromatic tang of berbere-infused Doro Wat (tender chicken stewed with hard-boiled eggs and homemade cheese), the smoky richness of Derek Tibs (pan-grilled beef), and the gentle, comforting warmth of yebeg alicha wat (a non-spicy lamb stew), all complemented by the subtle crunch of fresh cabbage and the zest of the accompanying salad.
Start your meal with a delicate Sambussa, a crisp wrap filled with green lentils, green peppers, and onions that tease your palate with just the right balance of spice and texture. Or savor the comforting Green Lentils Soup, a hearty blend of lentils, carrots, and Ethiopian spices that warms the soul.
For those who appreciate tradition beyond food, Abyssinia offers an authentic Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony—a cultural experience that goes beyond the taste, immersing you in the aromatic process of coffee roasting and brewing, accompanied by traditional honey wine, known as Tej. This ritual is not just a beverage but a story in every sip, curated lovingly by the welcoming staff led by owner Azi, whose warmth and friendliness leave an indelible impression.
Pair your meal with one of their carefully selected beverages: from the sweet and crisp Ethiopian drafted beers and ciders to international reds like California Pinot Noir or French Cabernet Sauvignon, each sip complements the rich tapestry of flavors on your plate.
Customers rave about Abyssinia’s consistently vibrant flavors and generous portions. Des L. highlights the incredible affordability paired with a warmly cozy and authentic atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Anecdotes like Elvia’s show Azi’s genuine hospitality, especially her gracious offer of complimentary traditional coffee, making the experience personal and unforgettable. Lupus Ludibundus praises the perfectly cooked, butter-braised lamb and the injera’s delightfully subtle sourness—testament to the kitchen’s dedication to quality.
Whether you are a longtime fan of Ethiopian cuisine or looking to explore it for the first time, Abyssinia Restaurant and Cafe is a must-visit destination. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a vibrant cultural feast that nourishes the body and soul alike.

The food was amazing! And honestly very well priced we ordered the veggie signature dish, 2 meat dishes and sambusas and it was very affordable. Everything was SOO flavorful! The service was great! Our waitress was very kind and super helpful ! The restaurant itself was very cozy, authentic decor, and I enjoyed being able to have our own private area to enjoy our food.
The food was great. Traditionally prepared and served. The waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. I'll be back!
Azi was super friendly the owner! Food was fresh and delicious honey wine was good as well, most of all I loved her coffee she offered it for free which i thought was very sweet of her, Thank you Azi for being so friendly and nice to our family and kids. God bless you
Absolutely amazing. The owner is a wonderful woman who made me feel right at home and recommended different dishes. The birz is sweet and delicious, and the lamb was perfectly cooked, served piping hot and quite literally the best butter-braised lamb I've ever had. The injera was fluffy and just the right sourness and came with a bright fresh green salad. Highly, highly recommend coming here.
Amazing food! I’ve been coming here for years and have never once been disappointed. The restaurant has everything from Vegetarian dishes to Meat dishes that all offer a variety of unique and extremely flavorful meals that are sure to leave you more than satisfied!
To start - I’m super picky about where I go out to eat. I literally spend hours figuring it out because there’s nothing I dislike more than spending money on food that’s not good. With that being said, this place… Love it! I went here for the first time and the food was really good. Firstly, the honey wine is really good. The flavors of the food are so well combined that it’s a perfect balance between the spices. The spices don’t distract from the food itself. I find that a lot of places use spices to cover up the poor quality of what they’re feeding you - this was not the case at this restaurant. The injera bread was great. Perfect compliment to the main course. The lentil samosa were phenomenal. Perfect bit of spice. One thing that I was pleasantly surprised with is that the meat is not just precooked and then reheated. I can always tell when food is reheated (I hate the taste of it) and this was not. So the fact that it was cooked to order was made it even better. The owners definitely care about the food they are serving you and you can tell when you eat it. If you’re up in the air about finding somewhere to eat and you read this review… EAT HERE. trust me….
First time trying Ethiopian cuisine and my visit was a very pleasant experience. The woman that served me (and also cooked the food) was very welcoming and explained many of the dishes to me to cater to my preferences. I ordered the mixed platter that included chicken, lamb, and beef, along with the non-alcoholic honeywine. The food was delicious. All the meats were tender and well seasoned. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone wishing to try this food as well.
This is my number one spot for Ethiopian food in the valley! It’s become my go to for date nights and girls night. The food is all so good and the service is lovely. You’re greeted like family when you walk in. The atmosphere is dim and full of inviting scents. Definitely try the ceremony coffee while you’re there!!
